For me, one clue to the secret of giving is practicing giving.
By that I mean doing regularly the everyday things with an open heart.
Sometimes that means not offering my opinion when I have one! or letting go of anger.
The feeling of gratitude can arise, or does it arrive?, as a gift, the more I can do this.
First Church is directly a part of this practice: Recognizing what I value, participating in my church community. Contributing in the ways I can, and challenging myself to expand all aspects of those contributions.
Doing all this is rewarding in itself. But in addition, sometimes, or even oftentimes, I feel more deeply, and wonder at all the world around me. Isn't it incredible?
